A very quick update to let my Substack subscribers know (or at least those of you who don’t follow us on Facebook or Instagram) that on 1 February 2023, Matilda’s Room is launching an online second hand bookstore. This has been a life dream of mine – to have a little bookstore which sells a curated collection of amazing books. I love carefully selecting books for my friends to read and enjoy and now I get to do this for even more people! And to fill up my cup (and hopefully yours!), with every purchase we will make a small donation to charity.
All of the details!
We launch at 7 pm on 1 February 2023.
You can find the website at www.matildasroom.nz
We will launch with a special first drop of around 30 books – many of which have already been reviewed by on my Substack.
After 1 February, we will do limited book drops at 7pm every Tuesday. We anticipate that each drop will have around 20 to 30 books each. We don’t want people to have to sort through pages and pages of books, so we will only ever have a limited number for sale at any one time.
Our books will range from $6 - $12 plus postage. We are about spreading the joy of good books, not about charging through the roof.
Delivery is currently $6 for one book; $7.50 for two to four books; and $9 for five books plus. We do not charge extra if you live rurally. We only post to New Zealand addresses.
We are not like other second hand book stores. We will not sell just any book. All of our books have either been read by Matilda or have a high rating on Good Reads. Everyone does have different taste in books – we will be selling the types of books we have been reviewing on our Substack.
The books are all secondhand and the condition of the book is listed at the beginning of each listing.
Each month, Matilda will choose one of her favourite charities and for every book purchased, we will donate $1 to that charity. For February, that charity is Angel Casts Charitable Trust based in the Waikato.
I will continue to write reviews via this Substack – that won’t change.
So mark your calendars for 7pm on 1 February, and check out our website, because life is too short to read bad books!
